Word of the Week - "Funemployed"

Funemployed n  -
People who have found they enjoy  being out of work.

According to the Times of London article, we, Americans are enjoying our unemployment time to take pursuits we would not otherwise have time to do.  "The funemployed write blogs, issue regular updates on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and devote entire websites to helpful advice and encouragement on how to make the most of the U.S. government's $475 weekly dole check." (FYI - dole = unemployment)

From a personal perspective, I don't think I would include myself in the "funemployed" category but maybe "somewhat funemployed." Most of the people in the article are in their twenties/early thirties singles with no responsibilities.  I have a mortgage and  a child to support.

Yes, I started a blog, have more time to Twitter, go to the gym and able to go to the movies but that's only because the job market is tough right now. If I had not started the blog, I think I would be really depressed or pessimistic about the market and that is not good for my psyche, my daughter or when I do interview. Hiring managers want to hire upbeat people not sad sacks.

So more power to the funemployed. Enjoy the time off because the market is going to pick up and we will all go back to working 10-12 hour days.

Ah to be a billionaire

I have no idea why but I love this photo. If I were a billionaire and a photographer asked if his naked girlfriend could get in the shot, wouldn't you say yes.

This photo is from a shoot that took place on Necker Island,  Sir Richard Branson's, the founder of Virgin,  own private abode.

In the event you are so inclined, you can rent out the island for a mere $250,000 week.

Both Google founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin were married on the island.

Go Richard Branson.

Bodes Well for Alex's Future She has the same birthday as Jamie Dimon

I have always been a big fan of Jamie Dimon, not just because he swooped in and saved Bear Stearns at a firesale price but because it shows that after being summarily fired from Citi (then Citigroup) for insulting his long time mentor Sanford (I am responsible for the mess that is now Citi) Weill's daughter, he went on lead JPMorgan Chase.

So it comes a pleasant surprise that my daughter and Jamie share a birthday, March 13.

What is also notable is that last year on his 52nd birthday,  March 13, 2008, is when he got the call from Bear Stearns about buying/saving them and we know how that story ends.

Best wishes to Alex and Jamie Dimon.

Another one bites the dust -

This has nothing to do with single moms or my life. It's just funny and sad at the same time.
