I need a boyfriend or at best a date

On my list of new year's resolution was to start dating again. Sure I would like a boyfriend, get married but hey it's baby steps, right. A date is all I am hoping for at this stage.

Why am I on this kick again? Because, yesterday, I was coming back from the dentist and this cute guy smiled at me. Not in a way that guys now smile at me when I am walking with my daughter and she says something funny but the kind of smile that throws you that says I am smiling at you, cute girl.

I was so taken back, I sort of weakly smiled at him as though you must be mistaken or looking at someone else, smile. But then I bravely looked at him as he walked down the street, he also looked back and smiled again. I am not crazy or delusional.

I am lucky I did not get hit crossing the street, I was so flustered.

And I did I mention that he was really cute and at least in his 30s. I think because he was young (OMG, since when is 30 young) is what really through me.

Sad to say, I have to get out more or at the least talk to more men.

Looking for your feedback on my dating profile

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Along with looking for a job, I know my love life needs to be resuscitated. Seriously, I am feeling a little like Susan Boyle, never been kissed.

I am going to post a draft of my profile and ask for your comments to punch it up.

Thanks for your help

NYC Single Mom Profile

I have no idea how to begin my profile because I feel so out of the dating game that I am somewhat mystified by the process. I hoping, optimistically and perhaps naively, that my love life will have a happy, romantic comedy way.

I am a single mom raising her darling and rambunctious daughter in hectic, crazy New York City. I was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and black father, moved to California when I was 8. I have spent most of my life traveling the many continents in search of adventure and sometimes love. I would consider myself opinionated (in a good way), optimistic, quirky and open to try new things.

I love all the things New Yorkers like to do, eat out at new and trendy restaurants, shop, go to the museum and read the sunday times.

What makes me different is that I am know a lot of "stuff" some useful, some just plain absurd. I can talk about the TARP plan, the upcoming Star Trek movie and the latest celebrity gossip in one conversation.

I love going to the movies but can't go as often as I did before my daughter came along. I am looking forward to the summer blockbuster season.

My ideal date is very old school, dinner and a movie. Wait that's a show on TBS.

Dating Again - afraid to make the first step

One of my new year's resolution was to begin dating again. That is easier said than done. You would think that living in New York City with millions of people would present plenty of opportunities to meet men. WRONG.

If that were the case, I would have met someone already. Sure, lots of people meet in bars, the gym, the street, parties but I am not one of them. Maybe it's because as one of my friends say, " I don't have an open face" and I would agree. I always look like I am in a hurry or serious.

You also hear about meeting, the "friend" of a friend. Well, my single friends don't know anyone and my married friends don't seem to know anyone either. How this is possible is beyond me.

Oddly, I always thought that I would end up meeting a single dad since I am single mom. Nope again. Pre-school and now elementary school, there is not one divorced dad or widow. How can this be, isn't the divorce rate 50% in this country.

Since none of the tried and true methods are not working, I am going to have to move onto internet dating.

My goal is by next week to be up on all the dating sites. Wish me luck and stay tuned.
